Gunung Ledang Recreational Forest - Johor
The Mount Ophir is the highest mountain in Johor at 1,276m. The mountain is said to be the home of a legendary Princess, "Puteri Gunung Ledang", who was once wooed by the last Sultan of Malacca, Sultan Mahmud Shah.
The mountain is a favorite among local mountaineers in search of excitement and adventure. The sagil waterfall at its base is a favorite picnic spot. Crystal clear rivers and breathtaking waterfalls in tranquil, unspoiled environment beckon visitors to this area for a cooling bath or quiet rest.
There are also tracks leading to the summit of Gunung Ledang. If the weather is good, the island of Sumatra can be seen from the summit. The mountain is part of an ecological rainforest considered to have some of the richest spices of flora in the world.
You may reach there by taking the Muar-Segamat bus and step off at Sagil. Some buses stop at Gunung Ledang. Then visitors have to do another 1 km walk. If visitors drive, head for Tangkak (in Muar district) or Segamat town (in Segamat district). The entry to the mountain is near Sagil along the Tangkak - Segamat trunk road |
