Tourist spots:

* Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera) - Malaysia's first hill station, 830 meters above sea level. Experience the funicular railway which has been in operational since 1992. Command a good view of the island.

* Kek Lok Si Temple - one of the finest Buddhist temples in South East Asia. Taking 20 years to built, its stands majestically on hill in Ayer Itam.

* Snake Temple - 3.2 km from the Penang International Airport. Built in 1850, dedicated to the deity Chor Soo Kong. It's a sanctuary for Pit Vipers said to be servants of the deity.

* Botanical Garden - created in 1884 by the British, 30 hectare garden with a waterfall, is an oasis of peaces and tranquility. The garden is also well known for their Rhesus monkey.

* Fort Cornwallis - the fort was built on the site of Francis Light's historic landing in 1796. Built by convict labour in 1804. A MUST SEE - the famous Dutch cannon presented to the Sultan of Johor.

* Reclining Buddha - Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram, a Buddhist temple of Thai architecture, it houses a 33 meter gold plated reclining Buddha said to be one of the longest in the world.

* Penang Bridge - it links Penang island and the mainland, officially opened on 15th Sept, 1998. This spectacular bridge spands 13.5 km across the channel.

* Butterfly Farm - 0.8 hectares with 4,000 specimens and 50 species of tropical amphibians.

* Kapitan Keling Mosque - built in 19th Century by Coudeer Mohudeen, features Moorish Islamic influence.

* War Fortress/Museum - military fortress on top of a hill. Built in 1930's by the British. Area of 20 acres, with underground military tunnels, intelligence and logistics center, cannon firing bays and other War Relies.
