Gemia Island (Pulau Gemia) - Terengganu
Gem Island, the 1km long, privately-owned island is a gem that sparkles in the Marine Conservation Park in the South China Sea off Terengganu. Gem Island had white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, beautiful corals and fascinating marine life. In another effort to preserve wildlife, one of the beaches on Gem Island is used as a turtle hatchery.
Nature is the doorstep and visitors do not have to travel far to enjoy it. You may also hire a boat to take you further out for snorkelling. The black tip sharks come close to shore near the rocky end of the beach to feed on small fishes. There for you can enjoy to see the fishes jumping out of the water as the sharks descend upon them.
In addition, if you have no patience for pottering around, visit the baby greenback turtles by the jetty. The Gemia Island is the part of a turtle hatchery programme. Turtle hatchlings are cared for until they are old and strong enough to survive in the open sea. |
